CSR and NIED/Japan Sign Memorandum of Understanding

UT Center for Space Research (CSR) and the Japan National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED,http://www.bosai.go.jp/e/) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote research cooperation, with a view to contribute to advancement of scientific research, technological development, and practical applications in the field of disaster response and resilience, remote sensing, engineering, and sciences. CSR provides science and technology expertise to the state of Texas efforts on response and recovery from natural hazard events, including operating a  direct broadcast satellite receiving system, and providing data collection, analysis and decision support to the state’s operations during emergencies. NIED aims to protect people’s lives and properties from natural disasters and to prepare society to be resilient to natural disasters, through research on disasters caused by earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, landslides, meteorological changes, snow and ice damages.
