In addition to SeaWiFS and AVHRR, data acquired by the recently launched EOS MODIS sensor is also potentially useful for monitoring phytoplankton blooms. Although the sensor is still being calibrated and algorithms are being refined, the existence of the red tide is shown clearly in this color composite of Channels 11/9/8 of data acquired on August 18.
