AVHRR Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in degrees Celsius SeaWiFS Chlorophyll A in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3)

Comparable trends in Sea Surface Temperature and Chlorophyl A images.

Thermal data acquired by the AVHRR sensor on the NOAA satellites were also acquired by the CSR ground receiving station and processed to produce maps of surface temperature. The images indicate the location of along-shore currents and the possible presence of relict eddies that may be associated with both the triggering of the event and transport of the red tide along the coast. For exampll circulation feature (lighter colored oval structure) is shown off the south coast of Texas in both the August 17 AVHRR and SeaWiFS imagery. Also note the cooler boundary of the Loop Current flowing between Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula intruding north into the Gulf, as shown in the AVHRR image, and the small green circulation feature in the NE Gulf in the SeaWiFS image.
