Rainfall levels of 20-25 inches soaked some areas of South Texas, as Bret began to disintegrate. The first Landsat 7 ETM+ scene of the region was partially obscured by cloud cover, but a Canadian RADARSAT image captured during the pre-dawn hours of August 26 showed the extent of flooding, including inundated areas along US 87 and Riviera, Texas, which lost its wastewater treatment facility to the flood. The RADARSAT image was relayed to TNRIS within five hours of its collection and processed for delivery to the DEM by mid-afternoon the same day. Rapid delivery of remotely sensed data is a key to the support of the DEM, where every lost moment during an emergency can affect lives and property.
