As an ancient inland mountain river system, the Finke River area provides excellent opportunities for quantitative paleoflood hydrology both in Australia and other arid environments where extreme events define the morphology of the riverine system. Several space-based radar scenes from ERS which are suitable for interferometry and radar stereo were used to create a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the Finke River Gorge.

The Great Victoria Desert is an arid environment in which there exists enough vegetation to support regular wildfires. Understanding the fire behavior is the major focus of this research and it includes determining the status of the vegetation prior to burn, the amount of regrowth after a burn, and how long it takes the vegetation to recover until it is suitable for burn. | |
