Areas of Interests
Dr. Schutz's areas of interest are in space geodesy and its applications, space geodetic instrumentation, orbital mechanics and computational techniques. His current research program includes analysis of satellite laser ranging to geodetic satellites for geophysical studies, analysis of high-precision GPS measurements for geodetic and geophysical applications, prelaunch investigations of satellite missions, and high-performance computational techniques.
Dr. Schutz serves as science team leader for the NASA Geoscience Laser Altimeter System to be carried out on ICESAT in 2001 and he was the Principal Investigator for a GPS experiment flown on the Wake Shield Facility. He also serves on several national and international committees. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union.
